the 4.6 has proved itself as a very stout reliable ford motor. im sure the newer ones have quite a bit more power than the old 2V's but saying that my dads 98 4.6 is somewhat of a dog..it has 166,000 problem free miles but without question when it comes to hauling my 300 6 hauls it alot better without any fuss

Did any one catch that 92 had over 300,000 miles? That comparison is over! And ive never drivin a small block that could handle a load like a 300.

I've owned two 300's and I'd take a 4.6L in a heart beat. My 300's were great engines but considering Ford's gearing strategy the engine was severely handcuffed.

Hmmm,,,Now is'nt there really 3 different 4.6 Engines,,,4.6 2-V Windsor, 4.6 2-V Romeo and the 4.6 3-V(Not sure if there are Windsor and Romeo 3-V engines),,From what I have read,,,pick-up trucks Got the Windsor Engine, Intake manifold pull air from the Drivers side,,,,,Mustangs got the Romeo Engines,,Intake manifold pulls air from the Passengers side, I have an 04' Explorer NBX, 4.6 (Romeo) Intake from pass side,,this is a Fast Rig,,,3:73's tranny has been OK, (5speed auto ??)But seems like the weak link,,Someone will know more about these different 4.6s !

The e40d really killed the 300 if you had an auto I know what you mean I swaped out for a 5speed and put 3:55 gears in it I have twice the power. As long as you dont wanna win a race.

Now that sounds like a nice combo. I had 3.08's in mine and they did the engine no justice at all.

I have an 09' 4.6 (75k miles) that gets about 13-14 MPG all the time and its pretty much gutless, and I have a 10' 4.6 (30k miles) that gets 14-15MPG and runs soooo much better. The intake is completely different, so maybe its the newer style 4.6 even though its a 10' and not an 11'.
