79 f250...Dana 44 to Dana 60 swap?
Has anyone done a write up on this, or have a list of needed items? All i have is my f250 with the stock axle still under it and a 79 d60 front axle/drive shaft?
I guess at a minimum what i wonder is what parts are needed new? U-bolts, gear oil, and possibly brake lines are all that's coming to mind.
Ive done multiple rear d70 to d70 replacements in dodge's before so I'm not totally dumb, but never a front axle.
Thanks

Not sure about any write up....but it's basically a bolt in swap with the items you mentioned. The only other consideration is the front yoke may be bigger.....1330 or 1350?.....I can't remember but you can even get Spicer ******* u-joints that have 1310/1330 or 1330/1350 combination.
Both stock axles use front-to-back steering arms on the knuckle....but I would suggest changing it over to cross-over steering. It works way better!
Dive in to it and good luck!

Yeah crossover should be coming in the future, but i spent a ton of money on my 92 w250 diesel and then went back to school... so I'm not exactly rolling in the cash right now lol.
and i know what you're saying about spicer... i broke one of those stock replacement front u-joints just driving through the gravel driveway before my engine got a rebuild.

Sounds like you got it as long as your 60 has correct gears and all is in good working order. Some will tell you to flip your u-bolts but i won't be when i install mine, just don't like the way i have seen the web cut in the housing, maybe someone has drilled it for this mod. When you got your 60 did you get the get the two saddles that go under the axle for u-bolts? It should go smooth.

Will the stock d-60 driveshaft bolt into place... meaning length wise and into my np205 yoke? Thanks Mark.

If you have the front drive shaft it should be a direct bolt in. Actually with your lift the longer d44 drive shaft might fit better. You will also need a steering block for a d60 so the drag link will run on a flatter plain. Im using a steering block and a 2 inch drop drag link. Soon I will get a drop pitman arm to help with bump steer.

Here's a thread on it:

He actually had 2 or 3 threads on this very topic. I thought it was pretty thorough. He goes into great detail on what he actually encountered, not just a "well, I slung it in and it fit" writeup
