Battery Blanket
For lack of a better term, the passenger side battery came with a fiberglass cover around it. Now that the truck is going on eleven years old, the original cover has seen better days. I was going to just remove it and then thought that some engineer put that there for a reason so I called the dealership and they told me it serves the purpose of a heat shield on that side of the engine for that battery. They want 40 bucks for a new one so do any of you maintain this item or just toss it?<O</O

Mine was acid-damaged when I got the truck in 2004, and I was able to find an OEM replacement on eBay real cheap back then.
I believe they are to keep the battery from getting too hot in the summer. It might not matter a lot if you have a serviceable battery and actually check it once-in-a-while. Use distilled water only, BTW.
