banks sidewinder turbo rebuild
Had a question about the banks kit. Found a complete kit on craigslist for a smokin price, owner says it has a leaky seal on the turbo and needs rebuilding, do they offer a kit to rebuild this turbo, btw its an og kit "redtag". So should I rebuild the turbo or can I find a center cartridge to fit the housings at a decent price maybe someone knows a place I can check outonline. Thanks for looking.

Banks has no support other than a gasket kit (cheap enough).
You'll need to know the actual model turbo to search for rebuild kits, there should be a number plate on it. I chose to send mine to a shop. My exhaust side wheel was a bit um, melted. Funny because I never saw high EGTs in the year I've owned it, my guess is the previous owner had it turned up then down.
Good luck, and wish me luck,

I'm not sure which "sidewinder" you are talking about, but it it's the second generation wastegated one, this should help:

The gen 2 sidewinder is a Mitsubishi TE06H charger, and shares the same rebuild kit as the TD07 if that helps.

I tried that and could only get a gasket kit.
Got the word on my te06h rebuild, turbine wheel is a 12-14 week lead for Mitsu to make more, as they haven't made any since 1998. Shop has a line on some cores and hopes to set me up with a good used wheel.
Shop had a good comment about how it may have melted, since I've not seen anything like damaging temps. When I bought the truck it had a half-dollar sized hole in the crossover pipe and would only make 3-4 lbs of boost. His thought is that meant there was too much fuel for the air available (as it's turned up to suit full boost) and that meant the extra fuel could light off in the housing - leading to my problem. Interesting.
I asked him about turbo blankets too since I was considering one to help with firewall heat transfer. His feeling is it could have a long term effect of coking up the oil & seal as the heat stays in the housing after shutdown. Sounds like good discipline on shutdown and oil intervals would minimize this effect. His alternative suggestion was to insulate the inside of the heat shield but not all the way to the housing. Bear in mind my only goal is/was to minimize the cooking of feet, so this could work for me. Won't do anything for helping spool-up though, not a problem for me.
