towing concern

I have a 99 Ranger 2 wheel drive with a 4 cylinder. I was wondering what the towing capacity is on my truck. I want to buy a camper and was concerned I wouldn't be able to tow it. Not sure what size I will get, I quess that depends on if I can. I would not use a bumper ball for towing, I'd install the one that goes on under the bumper, I think there attached to the frame.
Thanks for any help.

Look in your owners manual about page 124. Tow Rating depends on type of transmission and axle ratio. Find the type of vehicle you have, i.e. Regular Cab 4x2 manual transmission axle ratio 3.73: your GCWR would be 4,800 pounds. That is total weight of truck, cargo, fuel, passengers, hitch, and trailer combined. If you don't have
the owners manual, post the type, tranmsission and axle and somebody will look it up for you. You can also browse a 2000 set of specs on this board by picking SPECS over on the right margin. If you don't know the curb weight of your truck, somebody can give you a real good guess or you can get if weighed.

ok I have a 2.5L manual 4x2 but I don't know what the axle ration is, but both the 3.73 and the 4.10 shows the same numbers for GCWR and the same for the maximum trailer weight. The numbers on my manual don't make sence. It says for 3.73 the GCWR is 2 177 (4 800) and the trailer weight is 0-726 (0-1 600) what does this mean. ALl I want to know is how many pound can my truck pull is the right hitch. please help.
Thanks in advance.

Send me an e-mail or private message with your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). I'll look up your axle code and let you know the towing capacity.

do you need it since both the 3.73 and 4.10 show the same numbers. I just can't make out what the numbers mean in the manual. Do you know what my truck weights?
If you need the vin I'll send it.
Thanks for your help. I'm dieing to get a camper but I think I'll be disappointed that I won't be able to tow it.

The first number listed in the owners manual is kilograms and the other number is pounds. As in 2177 kilograms = 4800 pounds and 0-726 kilograms = 0-1600 pounds.
