I think finding an expedition/navigator with them in the junkyard would go a long way towards figuring them out. It will probably end up that the quickest/easiest way if someone wanted to swap them in, would be to swap them from the navigator/expedition. Not sure if the interior colors match or anything, though I think they must since I've seen some of the center console and steering wheel swaps that area a dead ringer. From the auction someone posted above, it does look like there is a little corrugated plenum there that must feed AC air into the seats... but its hard to tell. On my girlfriend's camry there is a tube like that that runs under the center console to supply heat/ac to the rear seats. The ex obviously has its own dedicated system for the rear.

The system in my 03 Expy was actually a little heat pump system and could do 30* warmer and 10* cooler than ambient temp with a max on the heating portion. It was really an amazing piece of work.

that sounds incredibly elaborate... I wonder how much that option costs? Seems like overkill.

in the later Super duties, this is the process they use: Thermoelectric cooling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The climate controlled seats do not use refrigerant and they also are not tied into your air conditioning system . They use a Thermo-Electric Device and a fan to cool and ventilate.
