Im with you guys as far as how screwed up CA is and I have lived here most of my life. Spent 5 years in GA from 91-96 sure is cheaper out there and all aspects of car ownership is much cheaper and simpler.

Back to the smog thing I have a 95' i hope this new law, haven't heard or seen it yet except here, does not cover mine. I periodically think about a new truck but one big reason I don't is mine runs great and no smog checks, well not yet. Can someone confirm what the "new" law entails and what years are effected? I would like to replace my stock down pipe but worry that if this new law will effect me I hate to take the risk.

Absolutely!! California is ridiculous, I have lived here most of my life. I have always worked for a living and paid more than my fair share into the government. They just keep coming after the dwindling working class to pay more and more so they can keep handing it out in welfare and entitlements to create their voter base. I'd love to move out if I could.

Cali smog now requires diesels from 98 model year (which is the superduty) and newer to be checked. OBS's are fine.

I am in the clear. Thanks for the info. I had heard some nasty rumors of them requiring us obs guys to install a bunch of crap to make it up to par.

The way we are going that could all change in the blink of the eye, especially in CA. Then other states would fallow. In WA we seem to fallow CA. it's the countys that have jurisdiction so It's mostly the larger counties that enforce the emissions programs. Emissions testing is mostly supported by the federal government. I think the best thing we could do to save the exemption of smog testing for our trucks would be starting a campaign to influence the people that get such a kick out of producing lots of smoke, (rolling coal) it's not cool and definitely gets the attention of environmentalists, and they are not going away any time soon. They just need to get a few federal buyback programs going and the OBS trucks will virtually become history. I think the chip programers would do us a big favor if they would eliminate that tune on their chips. JMHO

CA's requirement was geared around the OBDII implementation. I think they want to be able to read codes, if any. The Superduty crowd has been suffering...There are guys that did a lot of mods that now can't pass.

What your saying Rich is that 'they' will force us to sell our trucks to them or they will take them? Then they better take all the classic and antiques too then!!

I always thought the buy backs were a voluntary program? If they want mine they better give me a new 6.7 with the insurance to go along with it. That will be the day! Our gov has lots of money, what the heck, hire a million people and give them cars to drive around. If they see smoke come out of any bodies tailpipe give them the authority to arrest the driver and impound the vehicle. Freedom, what's that??

Remember the cash for clunkers program back in 08 or 09. Obama's program paid for with our tax dollars. The government doesn't earn any of its own money, it takes from the producers and gives to the takers. Another liberal program that didn't benefit everyone on an equal basis. Now Governor Moon Beam Brown here is CA. has signed into law a bill, I think by 2020, that will require one out of every 10 vehicles sold in CA. to be a Hybrid or all electric or the selling dealers will be fined. Where do you think the fines will be passed on to, the people who buy the non-hybrid models.
