My friend is an IDIOT......15,000 on oil so far

A friend of mine has an 03 6.0 with 170,000+ on the clock. It has been running like @$$ for about 6 months or more so i tried to help him out with some of the knowledge i have gained from FTE and then i find out he is at 15,000 since his last oil change, running a 15w-40 oil. He thinks its funny that its been that long even after everything i have warned him about. I just wanted to vent because it really bothers me that he doesn't care for his truck at all. So with that said i would like to know what is the longest you have seen someone go between oil changes on a 6.0? And what will be the end result of his stupidity?

IIRC the last guy that was mentioned on here had that amsoil and I beleive he was right around 20K oil changes

His truck was in the shop and needed MAJOIR REPAIRS I beleive he was getting all new injector and some other stuff

If I can find that thread I will post it

Your Buddy wont think its very funney when he gets a 5K or more repair Bill

Most here go 5K even 7.5K isnt to bad with synthetic a few have gone upto 10K but they were also sending in samples of oil to verify its condition to Blackstone or whatever company does oil sample checks

The 6.0L Shears its oil and also has a High Fuel Delution ratio those 2 things there are A GREAT reason to change it at 5k-7.5k

So it sounds like he has already caused damage to his truck if it runs like S@$!

Think it's safe to say excellerated wear, but how bad would depend on things like how much towing the truck has done, what condition of the cooling system is in and Weather conditions like heat and dust. It would be interesting to send an oil sample to Blackstone and see what condition the oil is in and what metals are in it.

If it's running like crap, there's a good chance he's lost a few injectors. Unfortunately there's no cure for stupidity if he thinks it's funny. See if he's still laughing when he gets the bill.

Same thing happens over here at work. The shop truck regularly goes at 10k oil changes on regular dino 15-40. I always remind the owner to change the oil and he ignores it...

It just had a new HPOP put in a couple months ago... it losses 1 or 2 injectors every year too.

I'm sure the injectors are about toast but i'm just shocked the truck has made it as long as it has bc he has always gone up to 10,000 on oil changes and has never ran synthetic. He occasionally used to tow bobcats and other large construction equipment but not anyone. The truck won't even go up a hill unless its fully warmed up. If i can i'm going to try and get an oil sample from it (if it ever gets changed) and have it tested myself because i know he won't care to do it.

I had a coworker who wasn't a dealer but got dealer prices on amsoil and he said I could save lots of money buying this stuff by going either 25,000 km or 6 months before changing. I said i don't think you quite understand how this engine operates I would never do that to this, maybe some pos gas job.
He got really mad saying it worked in every engine, and that he was a journeyman what does an apprentice know. Oh ya his engine is the 6.0 Chevy gasser.

This a perfect example on why the 6.0 has a bad rap. ******* people dont take care of the truck and it gives them problems, so instead of blaming themselves they blame the truck.

Hes gonna have one nice big repair bill here soon

I have a customer that let his "07 F-550 wrecker go over 94,000 on the original oil. When it started eating injectors he started cussing Fords.

The Chevy 6.0 is a great motor almost bullet proof

Why are you gonna go to this trouble? Your buddy doesnt care. And thats where it has to start!!! All its gonna do is give you more knowledge and **** you off cause he still wont care what you say. People typically arent stupid. Just misinformed. Not only is he misinformed, but also ignorant. Give up and let him pay for his ignorance.

Well then i would say your comment here about a chevy 6.0 would not be fair to judge the motor. IMHO Chevy has always had some of the best gassers ever put in trucks. Diesels on the other hand, they got a late start on. But it all comes back to care and maintenace.

I've had similar run in's with my buddy.

One day I called him up and said that he should buy an EGR valve o-ring kit and we'll clean his EGR valve(It's never been cleaned).

He laughed at me...He has a tuner on his stock truck and said all I do is work on my truck and that I should just tune it and quit WASTING my money on silly gauges.

That's when I gave up...He'll see soon enough,How right I am.
