A local utility company added some 6.0 service trucks to their fleet a while back.
First, they found out what happens when this engine idles for the majority of every day.
Then orders came down from on high
No idling at all.
Well, you know what that means ? Start it and stomp on it.
In the shop, green is THE COLOR of all antifreeze, and oil in diesel engines is to be changed religiously----- at 15,000 miles
Needless to say they are back to gassers, and happy as can be.

My boss neglects his truck as well. He has the hardest cold starts and no power all the time. He called me once to complain that his truck was gutless. I pulled his upper fuel filter to find it colapsed from being clogged. He then complained about the $2200 to replace 4 injectors. I told him that he got off easy with only 4 bad. I once let him take my truck to run for parts. He came back and asked what tuner i was running. My response was its all stock, no tuner. He couldnt belive our trucks have the same motor. His 06 has 130,000 and he has never serviced the transmission. Hes in for another wake up call soon!

WOW 94,000 miles on the Oil

I guess the money that he saved not changing the oil should be plenty to cover 8 new injectors

But man can you imagine all the wear piston rings main bearings cam shaft lobes, Lifter Failure HPOP,LPOP ect......

I have never heard anyone go this many miles on oil before

Until you put a trailer behind it. My bro inlaw picked one up used along with a 25ft trailer. Going up slight grades that 6.0l revs to 4500rpm and loses speed rapidly,Sounds like its gonna explode. I told him buy a 6.0l for towing, he didnt listen very well. I honk and wave as i blow his doors off pulling my 37ft'er.

In my experience its the dumba$$es like him that are always the lucky ones. I've got friends who aren't "car guys" and are just cheap and spend as little as they can on their car, do no maintenance, and yet their cars never have any problems.

Not exactly what I've heard but yes there is way less needed to maintain it and its a lot safer to attempt such prolonged changes on that engine. He was trying to compare the 6.0 gas to the 6.0 diesel.

I didn't even think that's possible, I run Amsoil and have since day 1 on my '05. I have never gone over 5k miles on any oil change. There are guys around here(Amsoil) with 6.0's that are going 15k miles between their oil changes and don't report any issues that I hear of. One guy will even send samples for testing quite often. I am in no way promoting any product or giving any kind of advise here. I will always change my oil between 3-5k no matter what oil I use.

Humans are the only species in the animal kingdom that will intentionally hurt themselves ... and the OP's buddy is proving it. There will be no more laughter when the truck gets to the shop.

i run mine on all my diesel pick ups 20000km -or for you guys 12000 miles.
almost 300,000km on my 2004 6.0L and it has been in the shop for repair once and that was under warranty- 2 faulty injectors at 60,00km. i run 0W40 year round, i recently tryed hot shots secret in my truck, my truck loves it. i change the fuel filters every 10,000km. If i was to change it at intervals up here(here in canada for some reason everyone wants to change at 5000km not miles) i would change it every 3 weeks! In my opinion if you use GOOD oil not walmart oil it ahould be fine. A buddy of mine has a fleet of pickups (5.9 and 6.7 cummins, 7.3-6.0-6.4, and 6.6duramax) he does the 20k intervals, all the above vehicles have over 500,000k, the 6.0 has 700,000 on the original engine, 2nd set of injectors, original tranny.
just my opinion on this topic...

back to the OP, any engine including the 6.0 that uses roller lifters is dependent on clean fresh oil for the rollers. On the 6.0 when the roller fails the debris goes through the LPOP and destroys it, possibly the front cover too. then fragments try to get into the HPOP(if the engine hasn't stalled by now) no prob just replace the lifter, RIGHT? WRONG the lifters are the very last part to be removed from the block. so now you pretty much have to pull the engine and do a total rebuild to replace the lifter that would have been fine if it had good oil.
BTW yes he is an idiot, personally I try not to associate with people that I think are idiots lest others think that I'm one too. prove to me you are stupid and unwilling to change or learn and I will probably stop calling you. maybe even only give you coors light if you come over, or MGD lite

He also owns an '06 HD with 35000 miles. Original oil. He just won't listen. "Costs too much to change oil" he says.

5-2 thats like 10-4 but only halfway agreeing I regret to inform you that due to unfortunate situations beyond my control I am forced to associate(not socially) with a couple special people. even more unfortunately they would ask you for a coors lite. they think its beer?
