I use 20W50 and get about 15 at idle, although it can be as low as 12-13 if very hot, and I get about 40-45 at 2000 rpm, with the 40 again being if I've really heated up the oil.

Now I'm using a HV pump but also have rather large bearing clearances, yet I think those two issues even things out. So overall, I'd say your oil pressure sounds fine.

By the way, is 50 psi the hjighest it makes? Even with cold oil? Probably fine, although FEs aimed at high rpm performance levels often have the pump bypass modified for closer to 80 psi.

Regardless Ford said (in 1966) that the following is expected for oil pressure:

427 40-55 @ 2000 rpm Mech lifters

428PI 45-70 @ 2000 rpm Mech lifters

All others 35-55 @ 2000 rpm Hyd Lifters

I have 50 at start up and my running temp is around 165 when it drops down to 15-20, cruising is around 50 and probly more when I nail it.

66, With the FE it is more concern to keep oil in it rather than how much pressure it has at any given time.

You are still good with those numbers.

Old school rule of thumb was 10 lbs. per thousand rpms and your safe. You have to keep in mind the engine tolerances of today vrs. 50 years ago and the improvements in oil.

Yep CJ hit the nail right on the head..Rule of thumb has always been about 10 PSI for every 1000 rpm's, and john (Argess is right about some I have had in the past would come down to 10 psi at 650 rpm idle...and i run Dino oil in mine also VR1 10-40...So yours sounds by the numbers your good to go..

Russell, I did re-read, "and john (Argess is right about some I have had in the past would come down to 10 psi at 650 rpm idle...and i run Dino oil in mine also VR1 10-40" still looks like a pissing contest opening to me.

I love you man, don't get excited and join da bear.
