Magnaflow 93307 Cat

Hey Folks,

Getting closer to completing the engine rebuild on my 94 F150's 5.0. Today, my new Y-pipe and cat arrived. It's a Magnaflow 93307:

MagnaFlow Catalytic Converters - 49-STATE & CANADA Catalytic Converters For Trucks, Suv's, American Muscle, Diesel, & Sport Compact Vehicles

On the Magnaflow site, it's described as a 2 for 1 and the picture of the two part system shows only one cat. The downtubes look to simply merge.

When I pulled mine out of the box, it doesn't look like the one in the picture. Instead, the downpipes merge into what looks like another another cat. The box is labeled "93307" and each of the parts is stamped "93307" so it would appear that it's simply not a case of the wrong part in the wrong box.

Has anyone else recently purchased one of these systems? If so, what does your's look like? Living in Nebraska, I don't need (nor do I want) to keep the two cat system as I want to open up the exhaust as much as I can.

Thanks for any replies.

Are you bound by law there to have a Cat?
If so try this. =)
High Flow Cat
I know you've already spent the money on your MagnaFlow but I thought I'd throw it out there.
BTW they make a stainless one for the same price. It just doesn't look as real to me in stainless.

Fear not, that Magnaflow Y-pipe/cat flows WAY better than the stock ford cats.

An update:

I sent an email to Magnaflow asking about what looked like a front cat on the 93307. I was sent a schematic picture of what I recieved and was told this:

"The manifold tubing converges into a precat. With the main cat at the rear of the assembly. It may be that our website simply needs updating."

Was kind of surprised by this as, with many of the pictures I've seen, the 93307 doesn't have the precat. I asked if the precat was something new on the 93307 and am waiting for a reply.

I'll let you all know what else I learn. I know there's a number of folks on this forum that have looked at this part for their trucks.

Most recent update. Heard back from Magnaflow about the 93307. I had also asked them about the purpose of the precat. The response:

It may be of newer design our website may just need to be updated with a new picture. As for the precat it is there to help clean the emissions in conjunction with the larger converter. Both the converters have 400 cell catalysts and will allow for 10-40% better airflow than stock.

So, sounds like a new design on the Magnaflow 93307 Y-pipe and cat as it now includes a precat. I was really hoping to run a system that would flow right into a single cat. I'll probably still run it and report back on what it's like for peformance and sound (it'll feed into a SI/DO Thrush chambered muffler).

OP, the setup you're describing has been sold that way from Magnaflow for at least a couple years now. There are pictures of it here on the forums even.

Thanks for the picture. After lots of searching around on this site and others, it's actually one of the first I've seen of the 93307 with the precat on it. Most had them with the pipes simply merging together. Just good to know that what I received is what I ordered.
