You can do that, but I wouldn't want the 20 clamps needed to do it that way. I also doubt you'll save any money really.
Does your truck have completely factory exhaust now?
We still need to know what you really want. Do you just want a single in dual out muffler and a pair or tips? Or, do you want a single tailpipe? Or do you want true dual exhaust?
I really like the tone and lack of drone with the Magnaflow I have on my 1992 F350 w/5.8L engine.
When I picked up my last 1993 Lightning it had Flowmasters on it. The entire trip from Detroit back to Illinois was a ballbuster due to the horrible drone those awful Flowmasters had.
Like anything else, it is personal taste. For me, no Flowmasters.......ever.
...Well a lot of the ricers use the magnaflow with the big tip for fart cans down here , but if you really want my opinion on mufflers , i think everything stock should be as quiet as can be , nobody wants to here them . But if you have a built motor with a nice cam i like the supper 44s with a tuned duel exhaust system , never had a single , never get any drone and its not blaring loud , and i just hate glass packs on a stock motor ,they just make a bunch of noise and don't go no where , i just like chambered mufflers...
if you want gains get headers and go from there, you will see huge gains and never regret it, they will make it alittle louder but give you somthing like 20 hp and like 2-30 lb-ft of torque which will increase gas milage and all the good stuff, and as far as after the headers, either 2.5in duals or 3in single, go to a muffle shop and they can weld it all up for u for like $100-150 depending on what you want, you will never regret it if you do it like that and that little extra cash in your wallet too
Well I would like gain, not just a change in noise... it's possible to get exhaust in pieces, right? Kinda like how you can buy PVC pipe in pieces. Basically build your own cat-back. Get a few strait pieces and a few bends and you should be good. Right?
If you have headers true duals would be great.
I have made a few of my own exhaust this way. It is cheaper if you have the time. You will want to weld up the system. If it were mine, I would use 2 1/2" and make it true dual. NO Flowmasters. Either dump it under the bed or out the side before the rear tire. The pic below is what I put on my 07 F150. 2 Magnaflow glasspacks $70, 3 mandrel bent 90's $45 & 2 four foot sections of tube $28. Total $143 from Summit Racing, free shipping. I paid an independant shop $80 to install it.
If you go single 3" be sure to have a good flowing Y. For mufflers, I would use a Dynomax Super Turbo #17793 (3" core) or any of the flow thru kind(magnaflow etc)
