Winch Mount/ Brush Guard Opinions?
I am looking for some opinions on the Winch mount/ Brush guard I picked up. It came off an F-550. I am wondering if it is too much on the front of the Excursion? Give me some opinions, but keep it PG-13 please.
Here is the front shot.

It is only on with 4 bolts right now as I have not decided if I like it or not. If I keep it there are 10 more bolts to secure it in place. It attaches with 8 bolts in the front frame horns and 6 bolts in the frame (at the tow hook locations). I'm thinking if I keep it I will fab up some wings for the sides to protect the headlights in the future.
A shot of what I took off for those that didn't see it before.

oh snap is that an 8274??? I do not like the way that particular guard looks... I like the ones that hide the winch inside the bumper (though you can't use those with the 8274). I'd think about hacking the headlight guards off that old brushguard and welding them on and painting the whole thing black if I was gonna keep it. If you don't keep it I would be interested in picking up that winch for my 79!

The guy I got it from said it came off a local electric company's F-550 truck. I can't find any info on who made it as there is no markings on it. It looks like a combination of factory made mounting points and uprights welded to a custom center section.
Yep it is a VERY old school Warn 8274. Very old school in that the remote plug is 3 pin. They have gone from 3 to 4 to the new ones are 5 pin connectors. I got it for a song from a guy closing his wrecker business and originally had it mounted on my car trailer. I have a line on another one from him, just working him into the mood to part with it for the right price.
I got a few suggestions on ways to paint the winch mount to make it blend into the Ex better. I'm going to completely mount it and see how I like it while driving around town.

Hey Guys I'm new to the site, Hey on this here I cant tell how you got it attached but you need to remember that the limits are going to meet fairly quickly if you don't attach it it correctly you have bad repercussions to the situation. As you can see here in this picture of my truck I had to add a kick out to my creation I built called the Excursion Crane, yea, original I know. But the point is that thats a full bumper replacement and it has a 15000 winch behind it. I added the kick out to take some load off the truck, I pulled a mile off fence out of the ground with it and every other poll was cemented into the ground, So yes, it works for those non believers. But yes add some headlight guards and it would look better but don't kill yourself over cutting a corner. I work in construction in the oil refineries for a living, I have seen people die and it always from cutting a corner.

Winch is on!
I decided to go for it and bolted the winch onto the Ex today. The original mount was on a 1982 F250 with the factory Warn mount and it used 6 bolts total. The way it is mounted now...14 bolts attaching the push bumper onto the frame of the Ex. 8 bolts attaching the winch mounting plate to the push bumper. Everything is grade 8 and its metric equal. I guess the next thing is to find out where I put the roller fairlead in the garage and get it bolted on.

I hope you guys enjoy. I know this won't be the last winch on here because I am never done modifying my rigs. Someday I will get a new front bumper and a winch thats mounts inside it...
