Econoline V8 - myth?
Green was $10 + shipping, but I bought 2 C1UZ1190A for the front. So the bill was $26 for the parts and 9 shipping.
I have replaced a boat load of stuff already (king pins, joints, brakes etc.) and it drives nicely (as well as a basically 62 Econoline can). I wasn't happy to find a dead cylinder, but of all possible issues, I guess the bad valve was best. Seats were going to have to be replaced anyway.
Just got a call....heads are done.....!!!!!
Thanks again!
NOTE: The waterpump and timing cover used before 8/23/64 are not the same as used from 8/23/1964.
The early 221/260/289 waterpump will not bolt to the later 289/302 timing cover. The T/C gasket is the same 1962/96, so the early timing cover will bolt to the later blocks, but only an early waterpump will bolt to it.
You do not have a 3 sheave crank pulley, because there is no such thing.
What you have is a single sheave harmonic balancer with either two single sheave outer pulley's, or a double sheave outer pulley bolted to it.
Accessory outer crank pulleys were used with dual belt alternators, P/S, A/C, T/E.
Since the engine was originally installed in a Passenger Car, it probably had P/S & A/C. No T/E until 1/1/1966.
Couple of the bolts were corroded badly...but finally got it off.
OK, crank pulley question....3 sheaves...clearly the C5OE-A (from high optioned '65 289 Falcon wagon) is assembled. 2 (double) inner and a 3rd inserted into those and and inner "hub" inserted in all that and appears spot welded together.
...compared to the 3 sheaves on the C2OE-6312-C , from this Econoline transplant, which appears to be a one piece cast unit. The back even looks like it is balanced. I can't see how this is designed to come apart??
I'm wondering if I would be better off replacing / updating the old crank pulley with newer as the old may be worth some $$ to help me recoop some funds from the heads. The serpentine stuff I have from the 5.0 HO won't fit inside the doghouse. I don't plan on running a lot of power stuff yet, but that is subject to change. It may get A/C and power brakes later.
Moving on, I am repacing the timing chain and gears as I think 5/8" is too much deflection.
I will use the 5.0 HO timing cover and the old balancer since it bolts up. I am going to need to figure out how to add a timing pointer to the new cover. Old pointer is a boss on the left side of the case. I have not looked at the 5.0 timing pointer to see if it will relocate. Engine (crank) is already .010 under and has a few miles on that. Rod clearance at .0035, so it's loose. I should pull it and freshen it up, but my short term goal now is just to get it back together to make a decent driver for intown. I'll probably change engine/trans/diff later.
Thanks for your input and research!
