Door post bushing… Houston we have a problem…

Ordered some new door post bushings from Dennis C for 80-96 F-100-350. Couple issues, the mega washer won’t come off the post and the bushing actually seems a bit to long and wide…

anyone else run into this issue? Is there a decent work-around? I had duct tape on there but that doesn’t last long…

Your a boss Kr98664! Red PEX… why didn’t I think of that?!? I have a red and blue sitting around already!

since I made this post for no reason, I may as well add some pictures for folks like me who are visual…

If you don’t have a PVC cutter, you can use a fine tooth saw and a pair of adjustable pliers.

I used a wood chisel to pre-spread it a bit and then put it on by hand. What a quick easy fix! I will probably wrap it with tape just to keep it in place a little better.

** disclaimer: if you cut your fingers off putting the slit on the side using pliers and a saw don’t blame me… use your best judgment of your ability to handle a saw with one hand and be careful!

I have done this on several different vehicles, it will not come off. You saw how hard it was to spread and get on there. You can work it around so you don't see the slit and make it look a little better if you are worried about that. The weight of the door will be on the top surface.

I used to have a convertible just for occasions like this. Got tired of washing bugs from my forehead, though. Finally got my own squeegee so I didn’t have to keep using the ones at gas stations. Didn’t really matter much, however, as I kept having to stop for fuel. The excess wind resistance did a number on fuel economy.

Finally found a better solution. I just create a fiasco, such as my recent ignition timing debacle. Quickly shrinks my noggin right back to normal size.

I ended up rotating the slit to the cab side and putting a wrap of black duct tape around it, works well and doesn’t draw attention.

I don't know exactly when they changed, but sometime in the late 80's or early 90's they added a guard to the door post, and with those you actually can unscrew the post from the washer. They're easy to find at the junkyard and of course easy to remove. I swapped these on to my Bullnoses so that the bushings could be replaced more easily. THe Pex tubing works great too though, lots of guys have reported good results.
