My Titan tank is installed on a FX4 equipped truck. You can not use the FX4 skid plate. Titan sells a skid plate made of the same tough material as the tank for around $100 IIRC. I did not buy their skid plate as I do not off road.

Regards

Ford has been installing 26 gallon fuel tanks in Short bed trucks since the Superduty came out in 99. Apparently not enough folks have ever compalined over the years for the engineers to make a change.

With 13 years of history, Nobody should be surprised at what they get. Either buy a longbed or plan on adding a supplemental tank.

The 26 gallon tank did not bother me when I was shopping for my F250. The F150 that I towed with for years only had a 26 gallon tank. The F250 gets better mileage while towing, so I actually increased my range!

I do believe my 2010 had a 30 gallon tank. I miss those extra four gallons.

I'm fairly certain a friend's F250 short bed 2010 6.4L has a 30 gal.
From the 2010 order guide:

Fuel Tank
38 Gallon mid ship – 8' box
30.5 Gallon mid ship – 6 ¾' box

Yea, in 2010 SuperCab and CrewCab trucks with 6.75ft beds had 30.5 gallon tanks.

Regular cab, SuperCab, and CrewCab trucks with 8ft beds had 38 gallon tanks.

For 2012 SuperCab and CrewCab trucks with an 8ft bed get 37.5 gallon tanks.

Regular cab trucks with an 8ft bed, SuperCab and CrewCab trucks with a 6.75ft bed get a 26 gallon tank.

The exception is gas trucks, all 2012 gas trucks get a 35 gallon tank regardless of wheelbase.

Personally, I don't know why they have so many different tank sizes. For pickups they've got 26, 35, and 37.5. For chassis cabs they've got 28, 40, and 68 (dual tanks).

If it was me, I would have just used a 35 gallon tank for everything, then double it up in the heavy chassis cabs for 70 gallons.....but, I'm sure Ford engineers didn't find that feasible for one reason or another.

The 5-gallon DEF tank had to be a consideration in the 2011+ trucks. Remeber, the previous generations did not have DEF.

When installing a titan tank, buyer beware. Read link below.

I am considering a Titan...I don't like the current range of my truck. I like the idea of 50 gallons a lot.
