77 f350 Power steering unit steering coupler splines

Replacing ps gear box with national chain "rebuilt" unit.
Had to use tap in the body of the unit to remove crap and one hole rethread (top two threads rounded).
Installed, pitman arm, body bolts.
The steering shaft connection on the rebuilt has a flat side.
The original is full round. Tag SPA BN 7E60 on the unit,
The steering shaft rag joint will not go on (rebuilt the ragjoint also).
Splines look and measure (not with caliper) close, but old looks finer than new.
Sending the old unit to Redhead , but need the vehicle\
Question- Are there different steering column connection splines? (Note flat shaft on new.)

Hatch Auto Electric, Hatch NM (from the days 30 years ago when things were repaired) reordered, got the "new rebuilt" today. Right unit, even has the brake bracket.
Probably will need a pump, so asked for price on buying a power steering pump pulley puller and owner Gary says just do it there. Use his bench, puller and installer. Get the part, put it in at the shop.
Can't get much better than that!
