choose tune
Quad Racer
I went with his three 91 octane tunes Economy/performanc/tow. I like how smooth my truck runs when gulping the 91 octane so I figured why run from a good thing. I was alittle worredabout beig able to find 91 octane everywhere I go but here in utah there is always a maverick with 91 octane when you fill up. I think my wife is gonna give me the boot if I bring up the tuner and tunes before they actually get here again. I think even she is excited to see the results.
Do you know of many folks running the non PI 2valves. I notice that most people are sporting fairly new v10's. It might justbe me going blind again.

Well I Am currently sporting the 3.73 gears and they are gonna have to go for sure, I'm very glad someone has a good opinion on the 91 tunes. I have yet to hear or read a bad opinion on anything being offered from 5star

Wow just. Loaded the 91 Oct performance tune and am loving it!! At first I noticed how smooth the truck ran with it along with good throttle response, but it wasn't till I was on the freeway headed into idaho on the south side of malad passthat I found myself grinning ear to ear. At 78 miles an hour I can mash the throttle and this turck down shifts like its at a tractor pull and takes off like a bat out of hell. Before the tune all I would of gotten was a whole lot of noise and zero results. To top it all off I finally for the first time with this truck broke 12 miles a gallon and that was with me driving like I was late for a date with Reba.

Surprised no one mentioned it so far... you have a 99, that means non pi heads. Find a set of heads cams and intake from a 2000+, and you will actually adding quite a bit more hp, esp in the higher end of the rpm range, where non pi heads are choked to death. difference between 99 and 2000 was 35hp and 15tq rated at the crank, you'd be adding a bit more than that since your resulting compression will be slightly higher than a PI headed motor.
I hate to break it to you, but bigger tires will make it even slower. I currently have 285s and the truck will be a tow rig only, debating going back to stock 265s or maybe even the base 235s some had on them.

Thanks for the info After about the first hour of reading threads and advice from other members I went out and bought the heads along with the upper and lower intakes. All I need is the cams and misc hoses. If it was your money would you buy new cams or would you feel safe buying used 50/50 chance of wasting money I guess? Not sure If I should of done the gears first but they will get done either way.
Thanks for the info on the tires. I do not plan to upsize my tires the 285/75/16 work well with my truck. I have no grand ideas of a hot rod tire smoker my one goal of this truck is to pull my trailer as eficiently and easly as possible. as said earlier not concerned with MPG's as it is a V10 and the two dont really go together. I just want a good running rig.

Did you buy the heads and intake stuff new? I'd have no problem buying used cams; I would have thought if you bought heads, you'd be looking at used anyway, in which in most cases I'd guess they would come with the cams/valves/springs/etc.
I wish someone would make a 3v head swap kit... that'd be one hell of an upgrade for all 2v motors... Unfortunately, the electronics make it kind of a pain...
