have an F-550 with overdrive light flashing took it to dealer they scanned the code and said it needs a new tranny.

Code is P0783 i know its something to do with the shift from 4th to 5th but can anyone give me some advice on what to do. truck drives fine. just don't want to be wasting money because i know this dealer loves to spend peoples money on unnecessary repairs.

 

The first thing to try is to clear the code and see if it comes back. Check the A

That should have said check the ATF for correct level and for a burnt smell.

 

dealer cleared code, has not came back on yet (only 40 miles of driving) il check the atf today. thanks!
