Can I use this Tranny?

I have a 4x4 95 F150 and was given a working 2wd tranny from a 94 F150. Both transmissions appear to be the same. All stamped number and tag numbers are the same. My question is can simply I unbolt the tailshaft on the 2wd tranny and bolt the transfer case from my 95 to the 2wd tranny?

no. you need to completely disassemble the transmission and swap tailshafts.

its not easier than it sounds.since you got it free, call up a trans shop and get a price to swap 'em.it's likely well worth it.

If you have to ask, its beyond your current skill level. Thats not to say if your feeling gutsy you couldnt buy a service manual and give it a shot. But if this is for a truck you need to drive to work every day and be reliable, i would recommend having a shop do it.

"If you have to ask... " i really dislike that phrase, I ASK EVERYTIME I'M TRYING A NEW PROCEDURE, asking when you haven't done something before prevents you from damaging sensible equipment, tools or yourself, it doesn't mean you're uncapable of following and accomplishing the procedure. But in this case, if you don't feel confident, let a shop do it for you, if something goes wrong you'll have someone to blame and hold responsible.
