Finally finished my 63 f100. Drove it home from the shop and it was running fine, went to fire it up last saturday to cruise on a nice day, and it wouldnt start. Got it to start off ether, but just idled high for a second then died. Im thinking clogged fuel filter or something along those lines, just would like a second opinion before spending much more money. I doubt its in timing as i timed the distributor to the NO. 1 cylinder and ran it on a stand after building the motor, and it ran fine on the way home from the shop. But I know these old 292's are notorious for timing issues.Hoping to get this fixed by April 14th as that is the day of my senior prom. been building this truck for 4 years in hopes that id be able to drive her for my senior prom, now that its here, im gonna be pretty upset if this issue holds me back! Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Stay Cool

If the truck sat a few days and all of sudden would not start because of lack of fuel (the either proves that), the carburetor float bowl(s) would have to be empty, which would point to a bad float bowl gasket. A weak fuel pump may not fill the bowl fast enough at cranking speed to start the truck before the battery has issues.

I would start with fuel issues first. What kind of fuel pump are you running, factory mechanical style, or electric?

If mechanical.....

I have had experiences with very minor fuel line leaks on the suction side of the pump (between pump and fuel tank) causing a weak fuel pump to lose prime. This is something that did not occur unless the car sat several days. BUT, the car would start and run until the carb went dry, and then would not restart.

If Electric.......

Verify power to the pump. Electric pumps work better pushing the fuel than pulling, so make sure it is mounted as close to the fuel tank as possible.



Fuel filter can also give you issues and is a simple fix, but if it ran fine until you parked it I doubt that it is the issue.

Running a brand new mechanical fuel pump. Fuel pressure is fine. The float is NOT stuck as I have rebuilt the carb less the bowl gasket because the kit didnt come with it. I'll give that a try. Thanks!
