Do a search, there's more discussion on this than anything else (well maybe except for how do my ESOF hubs work). The oil definitely needs to be changed regularly, and it must meet the requirements Ford put in the owner's handbook, after that it's your choice. Rotella synthetic worked well for me.

Thanks. I've noticed my turbo takes longer to spool lately. I'm using royal purple right know. The truck sits all week tho. But even after a trip to town it seems like its taking longer to spool. I'm wondering if the oil is part of the problem.

You'll get a lot of opinions on the subject. In general, 5w-40 is good year round, I'd suggest a synthetic over a conventional and more importantly, change it every 5k miles.

Mobil 1, Shell Rotella Synthetic, Schaffer semi synthetic is high end oil I have used in equipment for years. Currently I’m just running Mobil 1 in my 08 5.4. If you’re going to run dino juice I use Rotella T 15W40 which is diesel engine oil. I use this in the 68, 442 along with ProLong additive. Took it apart after 40K hard miles the journals looked new.

Just to answer the question, not to hear "opinions" I was doing oil test at each change for last 6 times. Mobil 1 generate high iron, what Mobil representative chose not to address on the net chat room.
Had no access to Amsoil, but Shell Rotella even in dino version was excellent, I settled to T6 after all this.

What is T6. So far no one has mentioned motor craft. Why is that I wonder?

T6 is synthetic Rotella and I am not the only 1 posting good reviews about it. My tests shows the dino Rotella and synthetic having basically close results, but synthetic give you extra protection and you never know when you can use it. Just a month ago oil pump got jammed on our Mercedes so it run for few minutes with no oil pressure. Yet after fixing the pump the 291,000 miles engine runs perfect. I prize synthetic for it.
I did test Motorcraft after 5000. The results were worse than Rotella dino after 10,000

Yea I have been buying filters on eBay. I get enough to change all filters 3 time for around $60.
