Thanks for the help montana_highboy. I was thinking about texting the owner to see if I can go see it. I was thinking about offering $1000 mostly because it will take 10 to 12 gallons of gas (assuming I get 10 mpg) to get back to where I live & I'll still have cash leftover for the tax, tag, title, & maybe the registration.

I would NOT hesitate to long to go look at that. If I was still lookin i'd be all over that for that price. Get on it before someone else does!

I just texted him not even a minute ago. I'm not going to waste anymore time on thinking about it.

I've been searching craigslist for the past 10 months & looking in the Indiana Auto & RV Shopper for the past month & a half. It seems to me like the number of Pre-EFI Gas & Diesel 4x4 trucks are dwindling. I certainly don't have the resources to find & buy a truck outside a 75 mile radius of a major city that I live at in Northwest Indiana.

Nope....I found the exact one I would have ordered. HO engine hidden headlights, electric antennae, 4 speed etc....Restoring a vehicle is BIG bucks....why not spend that dough on something you want? I understand your local 75 mile rule....but in the long run it will be cheaper to buy a western rot free truck than one that is local but has hidden rust damage. Good luck with the search.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that. Yeah... I would love to go back south to find a truck. But, I don't have the funds (mostly because I don't have a job) to do that sort of thing. Thanks for the encourgement.

I've been floating on about rather I want this truck or not. I do know that the 460 didn't come in dent 4x4's. But, my question is now... should I consider this truck in my search or not & what should the price be if you don't think it is worth $1400 (which I personally don't think so) ?
I text'd the owner of this truck. I'll be able to look at the truck on friday afternoon. But, according to the owner it meets most of my standards as it sits (But, I'll find out when I check it out at that time). Hopefully things works out as I plan.

Yeah... life got in my way of looking at the truck. I had no second driver to go with me in case I did buy the truck.

Well, I was trolling craigslist yesturday & found this...

1978 F250 Ranger XLT

I talked to the owner of this beast & there are 3 problems with the truck:

- Power Brake Booster is going out
- The truck's steering column is loose (might need a new one)
- It needs a new header on one side of the block because the collector has rusted out

I'm planning on looking at this truck on sunday afternoon.

So... what do you think ?

I need help turning an old truck into a welding rig work horse

I have a 1977 ford f150 4x4 long box? to make a long story short I worked at a refinery as a welder helper during there turn around and the welder I worked with didnt have a dually for a welding rig it was a dodge mega cab cummins diesel and he said the tires were rated for the load and he had 1 ton suspension ? I was wondering how I can apply this concept to my old truck? what kind of lift or suspension to suppot the load of a welder and if turning my 351M into a 408 stroker would be good or bad to my build ? also what gear ratio would I need to pull the weight? thanks for any help possible

KBJ, the distance might be an issue but there usually seems to be several F-250's on the SE MO / Southern IL Craigslist. Just a thought.
