And here is the early water separator. It's mounted on the firewall between the brake booster and drivers side fender. Yellow arrow is location, red arrow points to the ring you pull up to drain the separator. There's a hose beneath that drains onto the ground unless you put something there to catch it. I like to drain it into a clear bottle so I can inspect for water and debris.
Obviously You'll have better access if you do not have cruise control.

If it had one what would it check? You are talking about a truck that has no computer whatsoever in it. On board diagnostic is done by the driver and it consists of:
1) Does it start?
2) Does it run?
3) Does it move?
4) Does it stop?
Good to go.
There would be OBD if you had the E4OD, but the '88 still had the C6.

My 1980 Dodge Omni had a temperature switch in a coolant jacket, and an oil pressure switch in an oil galley, both wired directly, electromechanically, to the "check engine" light on the dash. No electronics, no diagnostics, just a light with two ground paths. A "Check Engine" light does NOT necessarily imply the presence of any on-board diagnostics.

Hi I'm Steve and I just joined. I just bought an 86, F-250, 6.9L, auto 2wd std cab. this thing has a great running gear, but has many other issues. to start, can someone tell me where the low vacuum switch is located? Also, it has a full floating axle so I assume it has either a 5300# or a 6250# axle, how do I tell the difference? The cert tag on the door post is unreadable.
Thanks
