Replaced the degas cap, looks like I need a new radiator...
A couple of weeks ago after I took the winter front off my truck I noticed my ect temps weren't getting high enough. So I went to the parts counter and got a new thermostat and while I was there I figured what the helll, I 'll get a new degass cap since I still have the factory one that is known not to hold any pressure. I got everything installed and left on what will end up being almost a 2000 mile road trip with the SD through the Smokey Mnts
The temps looked great the whole trip, after working the truck up and down some switchbacks the next morning when checking all my fluids I noticed the degas was almost empty luckly I had 1/2 gal of coolant left from the thermostat install I was saving for a coolant filter change. I've been monitoring it the rest of the trip and am loosing about a 1/2 qt a day. When we get back to the cabin for the night I've been loosening the degas to release the pressure to reduce the time the system is under pressure. The only damp parts of the coolant system are around the seam between the plastic and metal sections of the radiator.
Moral of the story, when you fix one weak link, look out for the next...

Try the MISHIMOTO replacement radiator for our trucks, it's about $200 more, than an after market replacement, but it's all TIG welded aluminum. It's the last radiator you'll need for the truck.

Anybody used the bullet proof diesel all aluminum one? It's quite a bit cheaper than what I've seen the Mishimoto one for.

Deed is done, I just sent payment for a Mishimoto. $415 with free shipping and a lifetime warranty.
Stock one could be had for half that, but I really like the idea of all aluminum and the Mishimoto had a lifetime warranty where all other all aluminum rads that were a little cheaper ($310 including shipping)had a 1 year.
