Me and Brother in law are having a discussion about are Rangers and he said he had one 4.3L engine in his. I say no way be he insist he did. He had a 1994 XLT 4x4 and he says a 4.3 engine. The guy he bought it from bought it new from factory and it was a special california truck and from the story he had to get a bigger engine cause of the 4x4 /wheel combo he ordered but I see nothing on internet about this at all. NOW I do find a aftermarket stroker kit to make a 4.0 to a 4.3 but I doubt it would be a factory option. Please help!!!!!

 

No 4.3 in the Ranger, California or not. No 4.3 Ford currently. 4.3 liters = 262.4 CI. Things get rounded a bit, (as in a 302 NOT being 5.0 liters for example) so the only one's close would be the 260 V8 from the early '60s and the 262 in-line six from the late '50s -early '60s.

GM had a 4.3 V6 in the Blazers S10s and just about everything else they sold.

Your BIL is wrong. Maybe he had a GM truck.

 

Yup, either your buddy is mistaken (ask him to check the 8th digit of the vin) or he has had a stroker kit, which would not come from the factory. The VIN (X) is the 4.0L V6, though sometimes they can be an (E)

 

Thanks for the back up there. I know Ford never never had a 4.3 engine in a Ranger and know like before there was a 4.3 back in the day but not since 60s and know that Ford had a 4.2 in F150 but not Ranger.

 

Yeah iv only seen 4.3s in chevys and ford always has to be different so if they came with a bigger motor itd be a 4.4 lol like theres v8s 350 vs 351. But I wish these trucks came with the 4.3 vortec motors, them motor got some ***** i raced one and it just croozed right by and it was stock

In 1994, the Ranger was offered with a 2.3 liter Lima, the 3.0 liter Vulcan, and a 4.0 liter Cologne V-6. That's all.
