Has anyone installed the Heater Core Shutoff kit? The advertise that it reduces duct temp by 20+ degrees. If this is true it would be a well spent $25 in Texas
Seems like the total upgrade cost is around $20.00. Read through Horsepower Junkie's experiences. Sounds like a great mod. Think I'll do it this summer. Let me know if you do it.
I followed the link and got the parts but when I tried to install the valve the hose size on the truck is 3/4" but the valve (Heater Valve Part 74809) is 5/8". Has anyone here done this installation? Several people on the linked forum said they have done it with no problem.
In a word, yes, the product works as advertised, as I'm sure the Ranger valve would too. We've only had one day warm enough to require MAX AC, but for the first time, I was frozen out by this truck.
Either way you go, I'm sure you be satisfied with the results.
The Ranger valve does not fit my truck, the hose size is too small. I have an early 1999, delivered in May 1998. Is it possible my heater hose size is different from later ones?
I did it on my 250SD PSD. I "T"ed into the red line behind the glove box for control vacuum. All vent positions has the hot water cut off. All other positions lets hot water to the heater. Heater hoses on the PSD is 5/8. What I really like is the vent position, no AC, is usable now where it wasn't before. It was like a heater before.

It looks like the gas and diesel heater hose sizes must be different. I will have to go to the Ford dealer to see what is on the 03s. Perhaps Ford has a valve that will fit the 99 gas Superduties.
It would be nice if Ford would step up and take responsibility (ie have a recall to install the valve) for this design problem that SD owners have been complaining aboyut for years.
If you get this thing figured out, please post a part number that will work in the earlier year gas SD's. I have a 2000 5.4 and am very interested in doing this mod. It sound like a great idea.
I will do the same for you if I get a working part number for the 3/4" heater hoses..
I have been surfing for an hour and cannot find the "heater core bypass" anything. Would one of you guys who frequent the site post or email me a link where I can find this product.
