They tried red light cameras up here in Minneapolis, but a court ruled they were illegal so they had to shut them down and refund all tickets that were issued from them. So the city was out all that money plus the cost of putting in the cameras.
This actually happened to me once. I was on my way home from work and I got pulled over by 2 cops. They tell me I have the wrong plates on my truck. Luckily they were pretty understanding after running my license and the VIN on my truck and seeing there's no reason I would be using the wrong plates. Turned out the dealer put the wrong plates on when I bought the truckand I had been driving around with the wrong plates for 6 months. They gave me a fix-it ticket to get the right plates on it.
There have been court cases that said they are illegal, but the cities make so much money they are leaving them up, hopefully there will be a class action lawsuit and the cities will end up removing them.
As far as license plates, I think the police here pretty much just take you to jail and let you deal with the court.
I have been told by some of my LEO friends you are better off driving without a tag, rather than the wrong tag, or a tag that has been expired over 6 months, but the law saying tages expired over 6 months is a criminal offense has been changed recently.
Fun Fact: How much money does the CHP get from issued tickets?
A: $0 annually. Funds from tickets pay for the maintenance of roads and other related services. CHP is entirely funded by vehicle registration.
im guessing more so for other "unrelated" services... i hit a pothole on I5 southbound in the sun valley area and broke my left front upper spring. i sure hope my 160 dollar seatbelt ticket goes towards fixing that hole....

They have collected many hundreds from me ...
$400 - "Illegal" lights (Should have fought it)
$500 - Speeding (Probably should have fought that one too..)
Take a picture of that pot hole and upload it to Facebook to win some money
This will be closed shortly I'm sure but here goes.\
There is no way these cameras save lives. The numbers will be twisted to favor anyones own agenda. Go ahead mail me a ticket I'm running short of kindling. $ grab just like anything else.
And for someone from Cali to say anyone is worse off than them? Thanks it made my day. I have read all the threads about inspections for this and that. I bet I have to stare at my TPMS light everyday becuase of Cali.
I have a Escort Passport 9500ix and it has a red light camera warning system and a very large database.
Here in Houston they/we voted to get rid of the red light cameras so the company that had a contract with the city to "manage" the cameras sued the city and settled for a few million dollars for a breech of contract and the camera systems had to be shutdown. Amusing part was accident incidences did not go up after the cameras went down.
trying to snap a pic of it when its in then number 3 lane of 4 isent worth 25 bux haha... even the semis who drive that route every day avoid it. ive seen them jump out in the #2 lane to pass it.
luckley it broke behind the centering bolt by 3" so the front of the spring is still centering the axle under the truck.... pulled over to a very loud slapping noise. pulled over on the shoulder jacked the truck up grabbed my 10' chain and some bailing wire and got to work patching the truck up so i could get to work.
crummy cell phone pics.
sorry got a little off topic.... ya them red light cameras are pesky... there's a few left around the northern los angeles county area and not sure if there still being used or not. ive almost got rearended a few times by people at 4 different intersections with the cameras.
Guys I'm really, really trying to allow some latitude here but the politics and legal stuff have to stay out of the thread. Please stay on topic and let's leave this one open.
i drive a big rig for a living and there is one in indy at the bottom of a steep hill that took my picture because i stopped about 6 inches over the line these things are a joke at that point i should have just ran the light because i got a ticket for it anyway
Can a red light camera database be installed in a 2012 Superduty navigation unit?
I wondered the same thing, and from my research the short answer is NO. I've got an 08 with navi, and unless someone can create a DVD with the navi operating system and then add the required files your stuck with the OEM version. I'm actually quite surprised that some uber smart computer geek hasn't created some type of custom OS for the navigation system already. Folks have tuners for the motor, lift kits, lights etc.. but nothing to customize the navigation unit and entertainment display short of replacing the whole thing with an aftermarket unit.
Your best bet is to get a stand-alone GPS. I know that Tom-Tom has red light warnings (it's what I use) and I'd think the other big names (garmin et al) have them as well. As stated before most all smart phones have apps for them as well.
