stuck brake caliper?

Hi Folks,
I don't get to drive my PSD much these days. The work beater gets all my attention and abuse but I went to take big red out for a ride last week and when I came to a stop, the driver front wheels was smoking like no tomorrow. It eventually stopped and when I got out, it smelled like a burning brake pad. Seeing as how I haven't driven the truck much in the last few months I just assumed it was a stuck caliper.

Is this a common problem? I've let the truck sit for weeks at a time with no issues before. How should I clear this up? I mean the obvious is to take the pads out and squeeze the caliper piston in and clean up any gunk that's obvious but will that do the trick? Am i missing something? Just preparing myself before I go tearing down the front end as it's not exactly as easy for me as taking the wheel off my little dodge car.

Thanks,

You can get a caliper rebuild kit at about any parts store. If it is sticking, I'd at least rebuild it, or replace it.

I think it was only $50 for a caliper.

Damn, I feared that answer LOL I hate bleeding brakes! Just a messy job plus the bleeders are always rusted-closed or rounded over.

Alright well I'll prepare myself for the "inevitable"

Spray the bleeders down with PB a day or two ahead of time, and use a 6 point socket to break them loose.
