5.4L mileage?

Other than the standard items such as maintenance, tire pressure and driving style are there any options for increasing the fuel mileage I'm seeing in my F250 screw? Would a tonneau cover make a difference? What about those goofy web tail gates- despite how tacky they look I would be all ears on anything which might help.

On an seperate note, any thoughts on basic bolts ons that may help throttle response or mpg and performance? I did feel a little SOTP gain form a k&N FIPK in my '96 Mustang GT but I would hardly call that worth the cost...

Run max tire pressure, keep the truck tuned up with motorcraft plugs and use motorcraft filters. Use a quality oil also. The k&n and all those little bolt on accessories don't really do much for these trucks.

Would it be possible to disengage the front drive shaft during summer months?

Mythbusters found those tailgate nets don't help.

I did the zoodad mod, K&N air filter, Lucas fuel additive, SCT Tuner, new plugs and COPs. I get 16 MPG on the highway with a V10.

I could probably do better with stock size tires, but I need wider tires for running in the dunes and on the beach.

New plugs and a k&n drop in did not really help much in fuel economy although the truck runs way better.

Maybe look into a 5 star economy tune and maybe freeing up the exhaust. I have been looking at the t to y pipe coversion, coated headers, and a performance style exhaust. More power with a light foot can help save $ at the pump and make the truck sound way better.
