pre 1999 misfire!!!

Well hello everyone im having a few problems with my rolling tank. First off I have a manual trans and every time i push in the clutch and let it idle it chops and studders and then the idle smooths out. and i have a idle control unit for my pto and even at 1500 rpms the truck misfires. Otherwise when im WOT the truck is a 6 speed powerhouse... but if reved up in neutral the trucks acts as if its running way to rich Any ideas? The truck comes up with a cylinder imbalance and a IDM malfunction code.

1- edge programer 75 hp add
2- 4 inch exhaust
3- 261,000 miles on the truck
4- truck got injector seals
5- cam position sensor
6- ICP sensor

Which injector?

If you have an imbalance on a cylinder, especially after replacing the o-rings on them it probably needs to be pulled, the copper washer replaced and the injector re-seated.

Just make sure and use a small rubber mallet and whack the injector a few times to make sure it's fully seated.

A sticky IPR cause some stutter at low rpm and when returning to idle. Does the imbalance show up for the same cyl each time? Have you cleared and retested for new codes? Post up the codes, you are seeing, and we'll try to help you diagnose the problem.

more info

Last time I failed to mention when the truck warms up between cold and the 1st warm up line, the truck has great power when its cold till it starts to rise off the cold mark then it acts lean and has maybe 3 lbs of boost till its fully warmed up. I also came up with some diag information as follows.

B1318 LOW VOLTAGE AT MOD.

P1298 IDM FAULT

AND IMBALANCE FAULT AT CYL. 3 & 8

P0113,P0475,P0498,P0470,P0476 ARE ALL EXHAUST CODES I BELIEVE. I ALSO HOWEVER BYPASSED THE WARM UP VALVE AFTER THE TURBO WITH AN AFTERMARKET HOUSING AND PEDISTAL.

I resolved a similar problem one time by cleaning out the gunk in the IDM connector. It looked like dry flaky stuff, (almost like fish scales) inside the connector and pins. I had to use some electrical parts cleaner and a tiny little pipe cleaning brush to get it clean. I then used some new die-electric grease from Ford and it's been working great ever since. I am not sure if you have the same issue but I thought I'd throw this out there just in case...

The tube of stuff that I got from Ford is XG-12. Looks like pretty good stuff.

I got the same readings on my truck after switching out to the grey CPS, my truck does have a miss sometimes though.

P0113 Intake air temp high. Not sure if that is the AIT sensor for the air box or the MIAT sensor in the the spider. Bad sensor could affect timing and/or fueling.

P0470 Exhaust back pressure sensor. Will affect fueling. That should still work even with EBPV delete. Ever clean the EBP sensor tube?

P0475 and 0476 are due to the EBPV delete.

P0498 Typo? Thats for evaporative vent control on a gasser

Like Roland asked "Have you cleared and retested for new codes?"

The EBP sensor is on the front of the motor, It sits just above the water pump, in front of the Hpop resevoir. The tube runs from the bottom of the sensor to the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold.

Here is a video of how to clean it. It is not mine but a fellow FTE guys.

I added it so you could see how to pull the sensor without breaking it and how to clean the tube.

news update. so the truck has been parked all winter with unhooked battery terminals and to my supprise today when i did fire it up the truck poped right over and belw no smoke out of the tailpipe.
(keep in mind this is highly unusual for 30 degree tempiture) The truck usually blows light smoke untll it is warmed up.. to me this sounds like a pcm calibration malfunction as well as the injector imballance and idm fault. any ideas?
