front axle seal?

I part with the divers side of the truck slanted down, and yesterday noticed a small puddle right next to the inside of the front drivers tire, took a peak and i am 100% sure its the drivers side axle that's leaking. How much is involved with changing out these seals? I an not a novice i have gone as far as a cam swap in a modern engine, but never messed around with axles.

Complete teardown of front axle. Inner diff seals allow the leak and are installed from the inside when the diff carrier is removed. Plan on both big seals on the axle shaft also - they usually come apart during disassembly, and you'll want to beg, borrow, or rent the proper seal driver for installing and reassembling.

What year truck? Mileage? Might as well plan on ball joints and u-joints as well.

Its a 2005 with only 68k on it, wow that seems like a massive amount of work!

To be honest, I wouldn't mess with it unless it was pouring lube out or really needed the ball joints (it will sooner or later). Keep an eye on the fill level and don't park where it's sloped that direction!

Axle Seals

When the fluid would come out faster than I could put it in then I did the axle seals on my 99 F350.

It was a big job and it took me several weeks to finish because I had other things to do.

Also had a spare truck to drive.

The right tools are important. They make it possible.

I figure I saved $600 doing it myself.

Good luck

I dont have a spare vehicle, and I dont have a garage or a ton of tools.. This may be an easier job for someone else when it gets to that point.. In a year or two I may just take it to a shop to rebuilt the front suspension and ball joints, sounds like the best route to take, it will probably be expensive but it will be the easiest..

Until then I will just keep it full and not worry about it
