Edlebrock claims that thier top end stuff is all dyno matched together so you may not be seein any gains do to the fact your not runnin the heads and cams designed for that intake.

If thats your opinion that is fine with me but I absolutely do not believe that ANY intake manufacturer would claim there intake will not produce any gains without their heads and cam. No way.
All I'm saying is that every performer intake I've ever seen has smaller ports that a stock intake. Thats all I'm saying, nothing more.

A few simple alterations that will considerably change the 385's attitude would be:

1. Swap out the timing set for an early ('71 or earlier) set. Double roller preferred as already stated.

2. Swap out the heads for C8VE, C9VE, or D0VE heads.

3. Swap out the intake for a C8VE, C9VE, or D0VE intake.

This will perk that 460 right up for small investment vs. gain.

One other item is to recurve the Dist as the factory distributor curve is lazy and you could pick some easy additional HP here and be all in at approx 3000RPM or a touch higher.

Yes another inexpensive big gain move. It always amazes me how much money a person will spend to get a small gain when they could spend so much less & get great gains per dollar. Doing what i suggested along with the distributor will easily get you into the 375-400hp on tap gas with manifolds. If you can find a decent set of heads that you can just bolt on you can see a 150hp gain for the neighborhood of $300.

Now it gets a bit more expensive but a set of 1.7 roller rockers. Once again an easy simple mod.

So how much of engine performance is hinged on exhaust manifold diameter, in your opinion?

Headers are a big help once you start getting more air in the engine. Ditch the H piece in the intake to filter tubes, if it has them. The silencer has only one inch tubes inside. I am not sure yours has it put my 94 did.

Also the 90 up 460 efi had a straight up chain in them, not sure about the pre 90's.

A bowl blend and good valve job will help tremendously.

Performer flows no better(or worse) than stock, but it does lighten the load about 40 lbs.
