Sharing my new $56 exhaust system

So a little while back, I decided that I wanted to change up the exhaust system on my '79. Having finished an engine swap in September, and getting everything running right, I was eager to try something.

Here's what I did:

Bought a 36" long by 4" diameter Heartthrob glasspack, with 2.5" in and out. Took the stock system apart after the 2-1 pipes off the manifolds, and cut the cat off, and removed all the pipes. The pipes were in good condition, so I saw no reason to replace them (I was also on a budget). Cut up the old system to get the parts of the pipe I needed, and went to work.

Pipe between the muffler and 2-1 pipe came from in between the stock muffler and cat.

Chunk coming out of the muffler was cut from the stock out to the axle arch.

Then took the axle arch, did some trimming, and put it on using a coupler. I know it's not the best for flow, but it's what I had.

Cost Breakdown
Muffler: $45
Coupler and 2 u bolts: $5
Exhaust tip (not shown in pictures): $6

Good job on using what ya had available. I think it sounded pretty good.

If you get the carb and timing set up good, she should be a screamer.

It is. Lot of fun to drive, but gas mileage goes down the drain if I stick my foot in it too often

I call that the "Flowmaster effect" sounds so cool when you are on it, you are always on it!

Looks fine to me, sounds good too. It may not be perfect for flow but is is far better then when the car was there.
