That is a great looking F6. I particularly like the pictures in the snow.

He shoots, he scores

Nice truck; but look at all the fun you missed skinning knuckles; dirt in eyes etc.

Nice to see a bit of the past preserved.

Reminds me of a farm magazine columnist I know from North Dakota. His column was about shopping for another loader tractor to feed his cattle with. His pocketbook dictated he shop the back row. After finding a promising candidate, he was invited by the salesman to start it up and putt around. After many failed attempts to start the old girl, including jumping the battery, the salesman offered to get another tractor to pull start it. The columnist's response was, "No thanks, I have enough pull-type tractors. I'm in the market for a self-propelled one!"

how do you get to this point

saw this while searching for an owners manual for the 49 F6.Ford F6 for sale | Hemmings Motor News I hope you can link to it from here? Where does one start to look for any needed parts? So far I have found that I have a cracked exhaust manifold on the pass. side. Looking at getting the compression check done this weekend and a few inspections too now that the Dr. says I can gingerly roll under the truck.

Nice looking truck that you found in Hemmings. Hope that he gets that money for it.

I would think that there should be a lot of exhaust manifolds around as guys install headers. As far as parts go I just search the internet using Google and also search FTE. You will find lots of good information here. I have gotten many of my parts from LMC Truck in Kansas. It all depends upon what you need. Everyone here has been most helpful. Don't be shy to ask questions and post lots of pictures.

Does the truck still have widowmaker rims? If so, you'd want to replace them. Finding suitable wheels and tires can easily run you over a grand ($).

yes the rear are widow makers. the truck won't travel fer so I may keep the rims as is but mount new rubber, might have to do it myself. a fellow around here says they usually wrap and lock chain through the rim and inflat it from a distance. Or like you say, new rims to match new tires. By the way, , do you know way flavor fluid resides in the 4 speed non synch tranny? I'm still trying to find out how to navigate threads and such.

fordtreexr,

Please don't fool yourself into think you can safely work on your old WMs. They were a bad design when new and haven't gotten better with age and abuse. If you wrap a chain around them and stand away while inflating them they can be like an old firecracker with a bad fuse, the danger might seem like it's gone but they can explode way after you think the danger is gone. The danger associated with WMs last beyond the time you inflate them, they can also come apart days, weeks after inflating them when you, or some one else, isn't thinking about the dangers.

Do yourself a big favor and search the FTE site for "widow makers". You don't have enough posts to use the FTE search feature, you a minimum of 25, but you can do just as good of a search with Google.

You can also read this page on my web site:

I will say no to the widow makers! Just the start of MANY unforseen expenditures I'M sure. What good would it be to make the truck safer with a dual cylinder brake resivor (any ideas on what to swap out with?) and probably seat belts, only to have a tire blow out. Also, can someone tell me the tranny fluid type for the non synch 4 speed?

Oh yeah. I've taken about 20 lbs. of Nebraska off the truck (mud/grain/oil mix) and as it talks to me it said it would like a lot of tlc. All in good time, it deserves it.

Bob thank you for the articles. I don't see how the editor can still publish his optimistic reply. Thanks also for the ideas for what to search for.
