Plus chrome retains heat. That's not good for any under hood part.
I beg to differ, cylinder walls benefit greatly from being chrome plated.

For the price of a pair of valve covers (jegs has like one choice) why not buy a cheap polishing setup and just polish the valve covers, then you can hit them with some high temp lacquer.

There does seem to be a hole as far as availability for engine dress-up / mods for '89s with the 460. You just have to get creative and in some cases work with what is already there.

Well remember, by 89 the common consumer couldn't get a 460 in anything other than 3/4 ton+ trucks. Trucks that at that time were made for one thing; work. Most folks buying those trucks bought them to make a living with, farming, construction, etc. There were very few people that hot rodded this generation of heavy trucks at that time so there wasn't a market for dress up items. Considering that the new EFI engine of 88 on used unique heads, valve covers, intake and front dress these items were just not made. Really, the only reason that you could get these things for 87 and earlier trucks is because those items were made for the earlier hot rod cars and just fit on the truck motors.

OP, as said before, if you want to do this you're going to be on your own. There won't be pre-made parts out there. That doesn't mean you can't do something unique that some folks would think is cool. Post a bunch of pics of what you figure out. Chrome valve covers and giant air cleaners may not be my bag but I still like seeing other folks ideas. Oh, and don't let people tell you what to do with your truck. listen to the breath of experience but feel free to forge your own path. Just because something isn't a good idea doesn't mean it can't be cool.
