Well I havnt herd of this one before! Look ZF6 friends!

So i was driving my truck yesterday and when i put the clutch in i felt an unsetteling pop and the clutch pedal after that felt funny. So when i got to my barn i looked under the dash and the bracket holding my clutch pedal spring had a nice crack in it. I wasnt sure how this bracket braking would effact my clutch pedal as it was dark out and i coulnt tell what els that bracket was used for. So today i went to move my truck and apperently the bracket broke the rest of the way and my spring and a chunk of the bracket fell on the floor. I know some people have mentioned not having a return spring and just wanted to make sure this is ok and to share this unique expirience with you all.

Sorry for the odd angles of the pics:

Did it bang you in the shin when it finally let go? From what I remember, the spring is supposed to help hold the pedal to the floor once you've crossed over the break over point, and to help it return up after a shift. As you mentioned, I too have read where several have left theirs off.

So how does the pedal feel and act without the spring?

I had a similar problem. I didnt like the clutch pedal sticking out further than the brake, so I removed the rubber bump stop from the pedal bracket and drilled a .166 hole in the opposing aluminum bracket against the fire wall. Then I took a peice of 1/8 inch dia. coated cable and looped it through both and clamped with a cable clamp after I adjusted the let out position of the clutch.

I don't have mine, took it out after I put in the South Bend. They recommend it if you have problems with the peddle sticking to the floor. There clutch peddle is a lot softer than the stock peddle. No problems so far 2 year now.

I took mine off a while back, I'm not sure why but I haven't missed it. Maybe when I did the heim joint fix. Anyway I don't have one haha.

Mine broke off 4 years ago. Crappy design on the casting that holds the spring. Works fine without it.

This is what I put in. I am really happy with the feel of the pedal and how smooth it is, with or without a load.

I had the exact same thing happen to me bafore. It wasn't my truck either. My friend and his family wen ton vacation to the dunes in Idaho. On the way back in UT somewhere they broke down towing the toy hauler. The tow guy refused to let them rent a car and leave the toy hauler at a storage and insisted that they take his truck, tow the toy hauler home to AZ and then return his truck when he was done fixing their truck. Well I went with my friend to swap trucks in UT and like 5 minutes out of our town I pushed the clutch in and snap the clutch broke right off. We "fixed" it and made it to the meet np. What a nice tow man/mechanic yeah?

My clutch didnt brake off just the helper spring. Im not too big on the clutch being harder to operate on the fact that i have a clubbed foot on my left side but im going to hang with it for a bit and see if i get used to it. I have to admit have and inch of less throw in the pedal sure is nice.

So you're saying the clutch is harder to operate? Stiffer pedal? What do you mean? And how does what you're feeling compare to what all the Southbend guys feel?
