Check engine light randomly coming on, mostly on.

Ive got a '94 ranger with the 8 plugs and more often than not while driving and sometimes when it first starts, the cel comes on and immediately I notice a lil rough running and lack of power. Also my milage has dropped since this has started. Plugs, wires, o2 sensors, not to familiar with my gas saver. I love it cause I can just get in it and go. With twice the fuel milage as my bi truck!

Take it to Advance/Autozone and have them scan it for stored codes . No charge for the service and then post the codes for help on repairing it.

Advance/Auto-Zone usually can't read OBD-I codes.

Your 94 is OBD-1 emissions & some stores don't have scanners for those early years, my local Advance Auto does, as they use an Actron CP9145 with the right hook up cable to the under hood DLC, so first call around & see if anyone can scan your OBD-1 Ranger.

All that said OBD-1 code readers aren't that expensive now if you'd like to own one. If you don't want to expend funds for that, you can pull the codes yourself following directions in this forums "Tech Info" thread located atop the thread listing page. Lots of other good wrench turning info there too.

Post All code Numbers found, as they can offer up good trouble shooting clues.

Thanks guys. I did try an advance and it was a no go! So I got a few things just as it needs doing. O2 sensor, fuel filter, air filter and oil change. Oh yea a fan clutch! It was about to fall off! I will try some other places before I check em myself, of course it may just be faster to do it myself! Lol

You need to do some more diagnostics on the ignition system, get positive trouble shooting results, before throwing parts at the problem. The code suggests that something is wrong between the distributor & right side coil pack. Maybe wiring, insulation, electrical connector contacts, or a bad right side coilpack. So break out your multimeter & do some voltage & resistance checks on the coilpack, & lay your eyeballs on the wiring & electrical connector contacts & let us know what you find.

Did the problem come about suddenly after some event????

Yea, I let a friend borrow it! But seriously at first it was hit and miss. Now it is on always but every now and again the cel goes out and it runs good, but only for a second the weak again. So the 222 isn't an exact code for a part. It's just for an area of the electrical?

Trouble codes are rarely for a specific part, but are intended to help narrow down our trouble shooting.
Seeing as how in your last post you said the problem seems to come & go, it smacks of an electrical connection problem, so have a close look at the wiring & electrical connector pin/socket connections to the right/passenger side coil pack for corrosion, bent pins spread sockets, faulty wiring connections to the electrical connector.

Since you don't have your multimeter, if the wiring & electrical connector check out ok, maybe try swapping the coilpacks & see if the trouble code follows the coilpack.

Another ? For ya is which coilpack is the primary? And should I replace both of them. If you can't watch the vid I found the connector on the rear coil broken and holding on by the metal in the connectors.

Replace the faulty coilpack & see how it goes. The right hand coil is primary.
