I'm a big fan of fuzzbusters and the V1 in particular, but I dont use one currently, and so I cant help you there.
I have heard that K40 is better than the V1 though.

I prefer the V1 from the standpoint that you can check what the count is. Sometimes, the "ticket printers" like to hide near a place that triggers the detectors. Makes you complacent since your device goes off every day around that area. With the V1, every day you get say a count of 1. Today, you have a count of 2. That means that one of those clowns is scanning around there.
That said, you cannot use it as a means of finding them. If they sit silently, you are screwed. Also, besides hitting the "print ticket" button, they are supposedly able to tell speed to 3 or 4 miles. That means they can eyeball you even if you come up with a way to jam their signal altogether. The best you can hope for is to be able to see when they are scanning someone else or they are too busy eating donuts to run silent and just flip it on all day long.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, sometimes I think it takes a special certain kind of person to go into the force. I got pulled over for having my tag 2 weeks dead last month and the officer asked me to bring him my insurance proof, then when I stepped out to hand it to him, he told me he would have legal grounds to shoot me then arrest me. I just had to shake my head. As an attorney, and eventually as a prosecutor, I've seen the good ones and the bad ones and sadly there are far more of the latter than the former and they really mess up peoples lives with that kind of attitude and always thinking-and talking- like they are above the average citizen that pays their salary and looking for an excuse to prove it.
When my Ex got broken into and stuff stolen, that was about all they did. Told them a cell phone was also stolen and we might be able to track it but no dice. Called them back again to tell them that the cell phone company found a number the kids called but no joy. Backtracked it to the place before the worthless bums would even go and question the place but I had to hint that I would be there to check the place out myself. Finally we got a conviction. I suppose I could go to the adult book store and get a set of cuffs out and bring the guy to jail and type out the confession to get them to do anything. Yeah, I sure as hell need them like a fish needs a bicycle except for the writing of the reports and stimulating the donut shop sales, that is.

I love my passport 8500 and it has saved me thousand of times. The VG2 has been excellent in Virginia. I know it is useless if there is nobody on the highway in front of me. Just like any tool has to be used correctly to help.
If you are alone on a highway and it saved you.......he just didn't want to pull you over.

The little one wanted to see some smilies!

Wow guys, way to completely NOT answer his question and use it at a chance to instead insult the guy asking the question.

that being said .. in the second part of your statement .. you are right it does take a certain kind of person to deal with the crappiest part of society 24-7 . and having people wanting to kill you every day .. yes some times it spills over on to the unsuspecting traffic ticket but then again every stop could be your last.
as a prosecutor and attorney you should know this
and yes there are the "dicks" out there that have a hard on for power and yes those ones should be watched a little more closely . but we also need them for the "fun" stuff cause there the best at it
p.s. you got to be able to take some fun ribbing inorder to survive in life

Interesting, this thread prompted me to see what new radar detectors are out there, and surprisingly it looks like my old Bel RX65 is still current, though no longer Bel's flagship unit. Guess they don't update them as often as cell phones!
Have always wanted a V1, but considering I never use the Bel anymore (only to/from work with the $$$ price of gas) there's not much point in buying a V1.

I think that MOST (the large majority) of police are still using traditional always on vehicle mounted radar guns. That is definitely the case here in WV. I no longer carry a radar detector, I just don't speed much anymore, not nearly like I used to. But back when I was younger and stupider and hauled *** everywhere, my cheap cobra one saved my bacon plenty of times.
In Virginia, they are illegal. My dad's friend got pulled over with one and they made him run it over. Virginia also has much more laser enforcement than surrounding states, although I've also seen cops on I-68 in maryland using laser. I've also seen the big tripod mounted LIDAR gun, but only once and that was in south carolina. They had it set up on an overpass, were clocking traffic about 800 yards away, and had a half dozen squad cars on the blind side of the overpass, along with 4 or 5 people pulled over a mile down the road. Pretty elaborate for a speed trap. with laser you will occasionally get a warning beep if you are in heavy traffic, but usually not. LIDAR didn't beep until they shot me, thankfully I saw the car on the bridge and had started slowing down among a pack of faster drivers. but as said, if its instant on radar, which a lot of places are starting to use, especially on the highway, you still don't get a warning chirp.
I have found that most of the time, if you are driving like a reasonable person (within 10 mph or so of the speed limit), situational awareness is more valuable than any electronic gadget. It will also help save your life while driving, unlike a radar detector.
what I really don't understand is how you guys can afford to speed in the excursion. I get so much better mpg at 65 than I do even at 70.

I haven't gotten that better mileage at 65 vs 75 that it justifies my extra time in longer trips. I won't even mention the irritation of tottering at slower speeds.
