wind caught the door! (pics post #20)

My sister asked to borrow my truck and while she had it she opened the passenger side door and the wind caught it and swung it open. It looks like it bent the door stop because the edge of the door crushed into the hinges.. The door has 3 areas that are bent in about a quarter of an inch and all of the paint is missing in these areas now. Anyone else ever had this happen? It looks like the door will need some body work and maybe new hinges? Its probably gonna be expensive to repair...

She must have been in a tornado ! I'm not saying the wind didn't do it but it would take a VERY strong wind. My buddy had the same damage when he backed up and the open passenger door hit a low wall next to the truck. He couldn't see it. The door was bent backwards past the stops and bent it up pretty bad. I see a body shop in your future ! Sorry you had damage to your rig and hope you can get it fixed easy.

Saw it all the time up until the '99's then I haven't seen or had it happen since. Wouldn't be surprised if it would be cheaper to find a whole door. Every single '92-'96 we owned had it happen on at least one door. Combo of **** poor interior door grab handles and poor design for no door catch.

I would force my own stupid sister to fix any and all damage she caused while in her care. I have had winds here in excess of 60 mph and never had this happen. Not saying it can't just saying i would be suspicious.

Why was she backing up with the passenger door open?

May be cheapest to find a used door in the same color with hinges and all and just throw it on. After a body shop gets done with metal work, paint, new hinges it may be as much as two new doors and the aftermarket paint may not match as well and never will be as good as the factory paint.

This reminds me of when my mom was dropping my sister off at high school, when my sister was getting out of the car she opened the passenger door right in front of a car that was going by, and it folded the door into the fender, mom was not very happy that day.

Luckily my sister didn't get hurt.

Go easy on your sister. I actually had the same thing happen. I got to work, parked the truck and when I opened the door to get out the wind caught it and ripped it out of my hand. I wound up with a crease on the leading edge of my door where the extension mechanism is. I will concede two points...I have a sister too and she does NOT drive my truck. My mishap was with my previous truck so I'm extra careful with this one. Did I mention my sister does NOT drive my truck?

The op's sister opened the door and the wind caught it (allegedly) someone else mentioned a buddy backing up with door open
