Got a 2000 F-450 4X4 pics
i got a 2000 f-450 xl auto 4x4 with 197k miles. it has oil in the water degas tank, have not get the oil drained to see if there is water in there in there, cant see any on the dip stick. he says it was running then lost power and died and wont restart.
my f250 pulled it great some of the hills i only did 55mph but all worked good, the length of the tuck and trailer is just over 58 feet.

I was holding out for a 4x4 F450/550 as well but around here they are so hard to find in a crew cab so I eventually settled for a 2wd instead. I hope I don't regret it later...
So, what are your plans with the F450? Are you going to use it as a dedicated hauler? If it is an XL then it might not have very much sound proofing so you may want to add some if you intend on spending much cab time on the highway. Just an FYI...(I learned that lesson recently myself....)

On a related note I found out the front tires slide all over when you tag the brakes in the little bit of rain we had here the other day. It was bad right after it first started and the oil comes up to the surface. It seemed to slip every time I went to stop for the first half hour.... makes me want to resipe my front tires. They still look good.. there is not much wear to them. I have Sumitomo ST718's on the front and ST918 tractions on the back, the back tires seem to have plenty of traction... I have broke them loose a few times at work.. they had pissed me off, and I hit it to leave and it walked the truck sideways when I hit some water.... I let out since it does weigh 14,000 pounds.

Greg, I might know some one with a front axle and transfer case you can put in your truck and turn yours into a 4x4. When I got my f450 my mechanic and another guy asked me if I wanted to buy the stuff off them to swap it in. I don't need it. Let me know if you are interested.

Yeah, when these things are fully loaded the weight on the front axle lightens up a bit. I am thinking of taking mine over to Valley Spring to see if they can install longer shackles on the rear springs so the truck will sit more level when loaded. Mine has air suspension as well but even at max pressure, the rear sits about 3/4" lower than the front.

Thanks for the heads up but I think I would also have to change out the tail shaft on the trans to attach the transfer case....since the truck has an ATS trans that is still under warranty, I will probably leave it as a 2wd for now.

The short list is replacing the power steering pump and high pressure line that started leaking yesterday. It took a whole quart to drive home last night. It has always leaked a little bit since I bought it, but I could never see where it was coming from. It went from losing a quart a year to a quart a day.
