2016 F-250 4x4 extended cab 3.73 and 245/75/R17
Raleigh to Atlanta and then Ocala with cruise set at 75 I averaged 14 mpg empty and 12.5 pulling a mostly empty 16’ lawn trailer (with no tailgate).
Today over 100 miles cruise set to 55-65 and the dash said 16.5-17 mpg.

That's awesome. What was your average highway speed?

55-70 depending on where I was at the time. I'm not a lead foot by any means. I save that nonsense for the track.

Yesterday we went from Alamogordo NM starting out on hwy 82 to Odessa TX, leaving Alamogordo it's a 16 mile grade gaining 4200 ft. When we made it to the top we were getting 5.2 mpg pulling locked in 2nd gear at 40 mph with the cruise control set, by the time we stopped in Odessa our average was back to 8.9. This is running with a combination that weights in 24.4K depending on how much fuel and water we have on board.

I like 40 mph in 2nd when I have to pulling a big grade because it keeps the motor at 4K rpms close to the peak torque and it doesn't work all that hard, works great for me when needed. got to love this motor and transmission combination.

@rvpuller - Thanks for sharing - what gearing are you at? I'm running the 3.73's and am only rated to tow up to 12,100. I see you're also running the 6.2 in a DRW. How many others of us are there? Seems like we're far and few between. Personally, I love the combo!

I have 4.30 gears with 2wd, my truck with the SC and 4.30s is rated at 15600, I'm just a little over that with my trailer that scales loaded around 16K, I also have a 50 gal aux tank in the bed.

Update - averaging 12.1 mpg over past 3000 miles. I could not be happier with the 6.2!

'12 model long bed super cab 4x4. Highest I have seen on my computer is about 13.8, but I rest around 10.9. I am fairly sure I have 3.73 gearing as I am under 2k at 70MPH. Could my computer possibly need an update? I have no idea my service records before I bought it. As many miles as I've put on it, I am sad I didn't stick with diesel this time around.

There's a cat on here with over 400k before swapping out motors in his work rig. That's pretty good for a gasser and with gasser maintenance too.

I was going to ask you about your math on the 8.5 both ways thing, but I see it didn't make it to press.
LOL..
Glad y'all made it home safe!

Update: just got a new TC - it's enormous and wind resistance will definitely be a larger factor. Details are here if you're interested. Have only driven a few miles with it but in other threads I'd provided rather optimistic mpg's for the old camper. Doesn't look like we'll be achieving those. As of right now, I'm hoping to be able to get at least 10-11mpg average. I'll post more solid numbers once we've done our first trip of the year.
