'05 Rear oil change - any gasket?
Okay...my rear has been chattering on some turns lately, figured the LSD clutches may be a little thirsty for the additive. So I got my Amsoil guy to fix me up with their Synthetic 75w-140 Oil. Even got the Friction Modifier Additive.
There seems to be a good walk-through of the process here: Welcome to guzzle's Rear Differential Maintenance Web Page
For anyone that has done this, was there a gasket on your diff cover? I've heard no, instructions say no, but read a guide elsewhere to advises placing the sealant on the gasket also. HUH!?

I use only permatex rtv's and like the gray for most applications. The important thing with RTV's is not to use to much. There should only be a minimal squish out when fully torqued down. Most of the time I just smear it on with my finger instead of laying a bead down. A bead is normally to excessive and lots of times doesn't give 100% coverage on the mating surfaces. Wiping on a thin layer you get the 100% coverage while using much less RTV.
Excessive squished out RTV while an eye sore on the outside is also bad for the components it is sealing up when it breaks off on the inside and starts plugging up tubes, bearings, gears and whatnot. I have seen oil pick up screens completely blocked by RTV from the oil pan gasket.
See nice uniform and minimal squish out of the RTV at full torque.
