I recently bought a 93 E350 with a 7.3 diesel and I assume an E4OD transmission. I bought it from a tree remaoval company who used it as a maintenance vehicle. The young man who got it out of thier shop told me that it didn't have much get up and go but that once it was going it ran fine. They had rebuilt the engine about 10000 miles ago but did not say anything about the transmission. It took but a few miles of driving to realize that it never shifted when placed in drive. If I shift into 2nd or 1st it downshifts to maybe 2nd. Selecting D it shifts into 4th.
Any suggestions of what to look at and for on this transmission?
I understand that the C6 was a very good heavy duty transmission. I was thinking about looking around for one before this one gives up the ghost. Will the C6 (big block) transmission bolt up to the 7.3 diesel.
It sounds like the cpmputer that operates the transmission is not powered, or the connector to the transmission is disconnected. If either of these happen the transmission will stay in fourth gear all the time when the shifter is in OD.
