Working on a wiring diagram!

As I get closer to shooting some paint this spring and I have some dead time during what left of this winter I want to build up a wiring diagram. The idea is to take a stock wiring harness from EZ Wire or Hot Rod Wires and build up a diagram that anyone can use that is legible and easy to understand. It would be primarily for us that have to do FULL rewires on the vehicle but even those running the OE harness should get some use out of.

This involves taking Open Office Draw (free equivalent of Microsoft Visio) and create a drawing that will print to 36"x48" at full scale. I also want to make the drawing semi interactive so if you wanted to see a certain part of the wiring diagram in greater detail, you could just show the layer that has to do with say wiring the lights, or the heater. You get the idea. I would also like to include a couple of versions of wiring for under the dash, or for the stock gages and one for aftermarket.

For my truck the plan is to switch to a 1 wire alternator to eliminate the voltage regulator, use relays on the headlights, use aftermarket gages, add backup lights, but keep the stock ignition, lights, heater, wiper and dimmer switches, as well as all the original bulb pigtails. I need to finalize the entire thing on paper to ensure it will work properly before I put it all together and sleeve it with PET sleeving and heat shrink the ends.

I need some info on where I can pick up the original Ford wiring books for a '65 or get some hi resolution scans of them. I would like to include the color codes from the original wiring if possible.

Some input on what I can use for connectors for each are would be great too! I want to break the harness down into 4 sections, engine, front lights, rear lights, and cab/dash. Some sort of water proof connector would ideal here.

Any help on this would be much appreciated!

I'm also trying to locate a wiring diagram for my '65 F-350... according to the service manual, it's "Form FD-7795P-65". Does anyone know where I can find a copy? Prefer free but will purchase if needed

Give these folks a call they are great to work with and probably have what you need. If they have what you need you will have it in a few days.

Thanks for the tip! They have it, $8.00 (and $6+ postage... wish they had a First Class Mail option for something small, it's only 12 pages). Anyhow it's on the way

It's not really essential on these simple old trucks, especially after modifications, but can save a lot of time tracing out circuits.

I know this is an old post, but I need a wiring diagram to figure out what the PO has done to my truck's wiring.

Did this diagram have complete information?

Here's a wiring diagram for a '66. I've not found any difference with my '65.
Plus it's free!

Thanks for that. I printed it out. It does not show the heater circuits and only 3 of the 5 fuses in my truck, but looks like most everything else is there.

I have a 20A heater fuse and a 15A dome light/cigar lighter fuse which aren't shown on any drawing I've found yet.
