OK, I admit it. I am a newby to the world of 4X4s. Does the transfer case require special lubrication, or does it use the fluid from the tranny. This is on a '93 F-250 Supercab, 460, E40D, Heavy duty.
Dont quote me on this, but I dont think Amsoil makes a Mercon fluid with just a Mercon rating. I think the fluid is dual rated for Mercon and Mercon V, which is not supposed to be used according to Ford. May not be as important in a transfer case as in a transmission, but I'm not going to be the one to tell you to run it. I do know a lot of guys run Mobil 1 synthetic Mercon.
You are correct, Travis. Amsoil claims comatability with all the major types of ATF. I know a few people running it, but none in Fords. Not that they flat out wouldn't, but just that they haven't wanted to take the synthetic jump mostly for economic reasons.
Maybe I need to go to the tranny forum and ask if anyone has personal experience with it. Of course Amsoil claims its the best and as far as I know, they stand behind their products.
Thanks again,
OK, I just woke up and realized I am in the tranny forum. Senior moment there for which I am entirely too young to experience.
