Bad Valve cover seals = Sputtering
I recently had a sputtering problem that caused me to change out the spark plugs.. That didn't fix the problem. I decided to go ahead and change the coils since they were old and corroded. After checking my local auto parts for the price of the coils I fell backwards. $68 each and I needed 8.. I went on ebay and found 8 for $80 and the sweetest part was that the ebay seller was 35 miles from me so I picked them up and saved me the time and shipping fee. So I went home and dove into the motor head first. While there I noticed alot of oil around the valve cover so I knew I had an issue. Turns out that the oil would leak into the sparkplugs and misfire. So I went ahead and got new valve cover seals.. After fighting with stripped screws and cramped spaces I also noticed some water residue coming from a spot on the manifold which told me there is a leak.. Great more work... I went ahead and used epoxy to hold me down until the new arrives.. The leak is small but enough water comes out where I need to add some every morning. not cool. .. I found a manifold online for $180 and I didn't think twice about getting it. But I have to wait 3 days to change it out. Im soppost to be headed to Orlando tomorrow and im hopping everything works out fine...
I felt the need to share this story with you all so if ever you have a sputtering issue you might find the information useful.
I'll post more pics tonight but here are a few..
