4 or 5 speed trans options for a 1959 f100 with Y-block

For a bolt in, 4 speed options are the T98A (a good truck transmission) and possibly the T18 and T19 (T18 is wide ratio w/ granny, T19 is close ratio).
For a 5 speed, assuming you want overdrive, nothing is really bolt in other than some really unobtainable medium truck 5 speeds that are big, heavy, and require slow shifting.

You will have to drill your own holes in those 4 speed OD transmissions. Your pattern is the old square pattern. They have the butterfly pattern but the square holes aren't drilled out.
The y block to T-5 bell is over $600, so I can see why people try the DIY:
Technical y-block T5 conversion - a will, a mill and a way - THE H.A.M.B.
Never finished as far as I can tell from the thread.
There is another adaptor that will work, but it's $850.

Thanx guys. The transadapt. link would not pop up but I will do some 'googling'.
By the way, I began my move to AZ in Sept. 2011 and have only visited this site once or twice 'til now as I had to build my shop once we got moved in. What a pleasant surprise seeing this '57-60 forum. My '57 is a project in line once I get the shop set up. I used to spend alot of time on the other forum looking for 'fridge' stuff, although I still have my '56 and that still has my interest also.
