1957-1960 Trucks @ Pull-A-Part

FTE Family,

While at the local P-A-P Friday, I saw three '57-60 trucks. One is a '57, long-wide bed, not sure on the year of the other two. Second one is a short-bed stepside and the third is an F-350 flatbed.

All three are fairly complete, but the short-bed looks like it was sand-blasted, then left out in the weather. The long-bed is fair, but the cab on the F-350 is in really good shape.

I plan to go back to get some photos, and to ask if a cab can be purchased.
Any of y'all interested?

That's interesting. We don't have any Pic-n-Pull's close to me, and I didn't use wrecking yards much with my 58build. Years ago they were for me better sources for parts and I went there some times but over the years the ones near me have mostly become too expensive imo or mostly involved in just "crushing and recycling cars". Here in Calif there are, I guess, financial benefits to wrecking yards that apparantly sometimes outway the benefits to selling parts and such.

But I know there is one I've never been to over the hill a bit, and with your find maybe I'll go over and scout around a bit. Always like a treasure hunt.

We've only got one wrecking yard in my county, to the best of my knowledge, and they do a great job with all, but its pretty expensive and they mostly apparantly focus more on insurance body repair type stuff. But they do some other stuff too. And in fact he's got a pretty big collection of old time trucks and such, but he doesn't apparantly sell that stuff to the public. Its roped off so to speak. Apparantly its his private stash. I'll have to ask the owner if I see him. Its a big place with lots of employees.

When I was a kid I would roam around junk yards on Saturday. They were cool funky places with parts strewn about here and there in the nearby forests. It was like huntin without a rifle
Of course they had some better parts maybe inside in bins, but it was mostly "forage" and then bring it to the counter. Those were the days haha.
No environmental regs--not good I suppose but there was such a "big unused" environment / meaning so few people and such that it was mighty difficult to hurt the environment.

I guess now we have so many people that everything effects the environment. Here in Napa county Calif where I live, the health and environment people plus others are constantly making it nearly impossible for wrecking yards to do business and when they put one out of business and they do, its like a victory for them. Not good. I think recycling old car parts is or can be the "green" way to go, but many think all cars and car parts are evil I guess. Too bad.

California has some

The Pick n Pull in Richmond has a 59 brought in 10/24/2011.
San Jose South has a 57 brought in 10/18/2011, and San Jose North
has a 59 brought in 11/03/2011. So they are still out there.

58,

I have not been to P.A.P. since before Christmas. I will go down this week and check on that '57 grill.

58,

Earlier in the week, I checked the PAP-Augusta website inventory, and none of the 57-60 trucks were listed. Drove there yesterday, and all three are gone-most likely crushed. Sorry 'bout that.

I was at pick n pull in Stockton Ca yesterday and they has a 58 F100 short bed big window 6 cyl 3 speed in the premier lot for sale for $1299. Kind of rough but all there.
