When the 6.7 first came out, the Ford dealer computer program showed 15 quarts. I know that my dealer was still using 15 quarts 3 years later, and still may be installing too much. When I asked the service manager how many were done wrong, his reply was "probably all of them." Do your own oil changes. And now we hear that they can't get the owners manual right.

The farthest I would go is by the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor and that for me is somewhere around 7000 - 8000 miles. I actually prefer to do it sooner than the dash telling me to change the oil. As an example I just changed it with around 6000 miles on it, but part of it was to beat winter weather since I have to change it outside now. And I had around 4500 towing miles on it from the L48 into Alaska.

The problem with "normal driving" is that I don't know too many people that only drive in "normal" conditions. Idle more than around 12 minutes per hour, Stop and go traffic, Dusty conditions at one point - not normal... Operating during a cold snap or heat wave... You get the idea. The IOLM takes most of this into account. If you are "extreme" then you may want to change it out sooner. Because of the wide range of conditions I run in, I use 5W-40 Full Syn oil and still try to change it just before the IOLM tells me to. A vehicle health report will give you % oil life remaining. I'm not a believer in 3000 mile oil changes just for the heck of it though.

Just my .02 -

I have been using the computer to tell me when its time to change oil and yeah, same thing its been between 7-7.5k. This last oil change I got a sample tested by Blackstone Labs, they came back saying it all looks good and I could try to go 9k next time and send in another sample. BTW, I use synthetic 5w-40, and tow a 43' toyhauler weighing in around 18-19k# depending on whats in the garage.
